How To Get That Classic Summer Style

For our next Base London Manual instalment, we’re back with the Co-Founders of – Stephen Kelly & Kieron Watts. They are here to show you how to get that Classic Summer Style. From a sportswear edge, to classic Italian tailoring let these gentleman take you through how to get that ideal summer wardrobe.

So let’s start with the three major rules, when it comes to dressing for the hot summer months ahead, “Go Simple, Go Light & Go Easy“. As there isn’t anything worse than over dressing or over thinking your outfit, so try and “Play around with different styles”.

So let’s take Keiron for example, he likes mixing a “classic smart look with a sportswear edge”. Like most of you out there, it’s mainly all about comfort – “So making sure the fabrics are breathable and loose, is important”.

Kieron has opted for a smart/casual striped shirt, worn open with a plain white tee. He’s kept the shirt a neutral blue and white tone, to keep the style light and fresh. He then adds a pair trendy sunnies & some cropped trousers to show off his kicks – ” As they do say that’s the first thing someone looks at when they meet you”. With the trousers, it’s best  to opt for a simple pair of cropped chinos or suit trousers.

Kieron’s slipped into a pair of our Strike Hi Shine loafers, to add an almost sporty edge to his look. Perfect for those summer occasions & extremely versatile, to be used again for any cooler day outfits.

For Stephen on the other hand, he likes to “Sway a little more to the conventional style”. For those summer days, he would opt for some “Classic Tailoring” choices. Although this can sometimes be considered boring – Stephen’s here to prove his style is far from that.

While everyone loves the sun – (or what we get of it over here in Britain), some of you gents can be prone to overheating. But don’t worry, as that doesn’t mean your style has to change, “just the fabrics, fits and colours”.

For obvious reasons, “It’s best to take inspiration from places where it’s hot” . So for Stephen – he is a big fan of Italian style.. “You know the little pops of colour here and there, with a strong sartorial vibe running through the look”.

There’s no need to be scared of linen either, we know it has  bit of a bad rep and can sometimes get creased & crinkled – But if you look hard enough “You may be able to find a gem”. Check out some of ASOS’s linen styles Here.

Now simply, pair them with a patterned or cuban collar style shirt & a “pair of suede monks and you’re golden”. Stephen has chosen our Delamare Suede Double Monk Strap shoes for his look.

Now you have the outfit and most importantly – the shoes sorted. You can now focus on a few easy accessories to shine up your look. Why not class up your shirt with a pair of silver cufflinks? Or your nicest watch? Or even a ring or two. Keep away from any necklaces or bracelets, just the simple essentials will make the impact.

Now you’ve got your Summer look sorted, go out there and own the pavement and parks in your attire this season.
