What do you wear when it’s too warm for woollen winterwear, but too cool to lose the layers? How about those March days when your commute is a soggy trudge across the city, but your lunch hour is gloriously sunny? The answer: great transitional garments which offer warmth, versatility, weatherproofing and coolness all at once. Sounds impossible? We beg to differ. To sort you right out, we’ve rounded up five essential transitional pieces of menswear which will take you effortlessly from Winter to Springtime. You’re welcome!

1. Distressed Jeans1(Pictured: Indigo Ripped Stretch Slim Jeans from Topman)

A nod to this season’s nineties grunge references and a critical piece of legwear in your SS16 wardrobe, distressed jeans are plenty warm and practical enough for wintry weather, while sporting a fresher feel that’s plain ideal for spring. Ideal for dressing down smarter separates (which is good news for layered looks) and equally perfect for casual ensembles, invest in

2. Wide Legged Trousers2(Pictured: ADTP Pleated Chinos in Wide Leg Fit via ASOS)

For smarter, less jeans-appropriate scenarios, it’s time to broaden your horizons and your trouser legs this March. After over a decade in slim trousers, moving onto wider styles can be confronting, but with the right shoe and the right styling, they look spot on this spring – and they balance very well indeed with plenty of “up top” layering with a more tailored feel. Wear them right by finishing the look up with a pair of chunky but not overly weighty shoes. Sturdily made white plimsolls work well, as do our brand new Garrick suede shoes.

3. The Grey Rollneck3(Pictured: Salt & Pepper Wide Rib Roll Neck Jumper from Topman)

Rollnecks were a strong look for AW15, particularly in dark, warm shades. In SS16 they’re just as on-the-money sartorially, but they’re benefitting from a lighter, brighter look. Perk up your wardrobe for spring while staying warm in a light grey rollneck. Team it with distressed jeans and a suit for a sure-fire Springtime staple.

4. The Souvenier Jacket4(Pictured: Sasquatchfabrix + Beams Embroidered Souveneir Jacket via Mr Porter)

Also known as a sukajan jacket, this light piece of outerwear is taking the reigns from the bomber jacket as the statement piece of the season. Decorated on the reverse, this is a prime piece of seasonal fashion to embrace (we love it with a white tee and darker, distressed denim).

5. The Suede Boot5(Pictured: Henry Suede from Base London)

Spot on for the chillier, sunnier days of early spring, the suede boot is a strong sartorial choice for crossover dressing this season with a “foot” in both the warm winter camp and the suede-obsessed SS16 camp. Team with distressed denim or a more tailored look for easy transitional style.
