Work It Out... Get A Payrise

Ok, if you've been following this book to the tee, it may be a bit soon to apply for a pay rise, only 11 months after applying for the job in the first place. However if needs must or you think you're in a position to start negotiating on salary, there are a few things you need to consider. You don't want to be on your knees Oliver Twist style, begging your boss "Please sir, can I have some more", So here's Base London's guide to...negotiating a pay rise.
Do Your Research
Look at your market, have a look at the job section of the paper and magazines and gauge what salary other employers are offering for a similar role to yours. This should give you a decent idea on how high to aim.
Timing
The timing of your request is vital, if the company is experiencing difficulties or the general market place is in tough times then just don't bother. Also make sure you are confident that you deserve it, if you've done little for the past few months then why would they pay you more?
Be Prepared
Schedule a meeting with your boss and have a list of all the facts that back up your argument ready and printed out, preparation shows that you're
serious.
Plan B
If it's all been unsuccessful don't panic, always have a plan B, perhaps lower the terms or look for alternative options such as revised hours or any company benefits.
The Alternative Suggestion
Bribery - although it's not ethical, invite your boss out for a few jars one evening and suggest making it a session. Take him to a strip joint get a picture of him indulging in a little dance and then threaten to send it to his wife. This could end up in you getting more cash no problem...or see you out the door.
