Whether it's a first job, a simple change or result of your Christmas party antics, the New Year is the perfect excuse for a fresh start for your career. Through the year we'll guide you through a career path, but to start here's Base London's guide to finding the job you want.
Start the Search
There are many different places to look for new jobs, such as local and national papers and employment agencies. Also donÂ’t forget the internet has a huge amount of jobs advertised which are updated regularly and easily searchable by industry.
Don't rule out the help friends and family can offer, sometimes who you know can be great help for getting your foot in the door.
Get Experience
Whilst waiting for interviews and job offers it's a good idea to get experience in the industry of choice; ring up companies and offer your services for a couple of weeks for free. This will help you get a real feel for the industry and also help you to build up those all-important contacts. They can also offer advice and although you might only be making the tea or filing, be as helpful as possible and ask questions, you never know where it might lead.
Keep it up
It's quite easy to become discouraged when looking for a new job especially if the offers aren't flooding in. It is important to stay positive about the challenge, keep applying and keep searching. Don't give up.
