Working It: Meet the Base London Industrial Collection

Blood, sweat and steel have gone into the Base London Industrial Collection, metaphorically, obviously. Featuring footwear inspired by our Great British manufacturing past & the men who built it, the Industrial Collection honours traditional, vintage shoe silhouettes, but also applies the best of modern manufacturing techniques to produce sturdy, beefed up footwear with a classic British feel.

Let's get to work and meet the Industrialists...

PEEL

Named for 1830s Prime Minister and textile manufacturing king pin Robert Peel, our waxy wing-tipped brogue shoe sports contrasting leather finishes, hole punch detailing and a traditional silhouette set on a sturdy rubber sole designed for serious grip and comfort.

DAVY

A cousin shoe to our waxy Peel brogue, hi shine Davy is a tribute to the brilliant chemist and inventor Sir Humphrey Davy, whose scientific discoveries and inventions led to the creation of the safety lamp, a crucial development in mining which saved thousands of lives in the industry. With a chunky rubber sole and unmistakable brogue detailing which adds a touch of traditional flair, this is a shoe which is all business, with a secret sense of fun.

STEPHENSON

Creator of the first inter city railway, engineer George Stephenson was the inspiration behind this on trend, yet timeless chukka boot. Rendered in deep shine, waxy leathers, these two eyelet boots are simple yet suave, combining a sleek silhouette set on a heavy duty, cleated rubber sole.

ROEBUCK

The invention of industrial scale manufacturing of sulphuric acid was a big step in the Industrial Revolution, and these sturdy boots are perfect for taking big strides, just like industrial inventor John Roebuck. A heavyweight lace up boot, this quality leather shoe was designed for taking no prisoners, walking the walk and talking the talk too – in all weathers and terrains.

BRUNEL

How could we leave out Isambard Kingdom Brunel? As one of the most prolific, imaginative and important inventors of the Industrial Revolution, this Brit has more than earned his place in our Industrial collection. And the boot we've created as his namesake is pretty special too. Featuring a “don't mess with me” thick rubber sole with coolly contemporary, vintage-influenced leather uppers infused with serious attitude, the Brunel boot is a stand out addition to the Industrial Collection.

LOCKE

Widely considered to be better at finishing projects than Stephenson himself, railway engineer Joseph Locke was a man who got things done. Things like building the Grand Junction Railway to connect Liverpool railway to Crewe and Birmingham. The Base London boots which bear his name channel his can do spirit, sporting light hole punched detailing on sturdy, hand-crafted leather, set on a thick, cleated rubber sole.
