  • 6 (Other) London Menswear Brands You Need On Your Radar

Is there a city more dapper than London? We don't think so. Paris may be chic and Milan may be immaculate, New York may look fresh and Tokyo may have edge, but our home-grown fashion wins hands down in our humble opinion.

Proud Londoners ourselves, Team Base like to keep up with the best menswear in the Big Smoke. So without further ado, we'd like to introduce you to the 6 (other) London-born menswear brands you need on your radar right now...

    Cutler & Gross

    cutler_gross_black_F1001-300x362

Producing exceptional eyewear for over 46 years, Cutler and Gross spectacles and shades have been seen on the faces of the rich and famous on red carpets everywhere. From Rihanna to Elton John, Cutler and Gross's eyewear has star-appeal thanks to its fashion-forward ethos and exceptional quality. Originating from Knightsbridge, this is a London brand with serious global tekkers.

    Gieves & Hawkes

    2902-800w

Renowned as one of the world's oldest bespoke tailoring brands and originating from, you guessed it, London's world famous Savile Row, Gieves & Hawkes is an essential London brand for lovers of sharp tailoring and exquisitely made menswear.

    All Saints

    AllSaints

Taking its name from London's All Saints Row, global brand All Saints wears its Spitalfields' heritage proudly on its many sleeves. Channelling a distinctly English, muted-yet-gritty “rock'n'roll” edge, this is a mid-priced brand full of incredibly wearable, top drawer clobber.

    Garbstore

    garbstore-2010-spring-summer-new-releases-1

The brainchild of ex-Paul Smith designer Ian Paley, this modern London menswear brand opened its doors in 2007, creating vibrant, quietly quirky apparel with a strong London vibe. Inspired by post WWII “unfamiliar vintage” fashion, this is an unusual brand with a lot of potential.

    Hackett London

    hackett-london-milan-italy-9

Haven't heard of Hackett London? Where have you been hiding? This London-born brand which began as a market stall in 1979 is going from strength to strength currently, with outlets at 75 retail locations all over the world. Born on Portobello Road, this sharp menswear brand is both modern and nostalgic at the same time – oh, and it's quintessentially British too. Thumbs up from us.

    YMC (YouMustCreate)

    ss11-couple-but-bigger

Active on London's fashion scene for 20 years, YMC are now seriously coming into their own, with clean cut, simple and immeasurably wearable staples that seek to transcend trends and instead provide top notch, perfectly made pieces for everyday wear. Awesome for high quality versions of those wardrobe essentials you wear time and time again.

And don't forget Base London. We've been creating top class gentlemen's shoes in London town since 1996, keeping the city's feet looking seriously dapper. Do you have a favourite London menswear brand? Perhaps it's us! Let us know by getting involved in the Base Facebook group.

  • Autumn Winter 2014 Style Guide: Autumn Awe

The seasons are slowly turning to a colder tone and the summer nights are gradually getting darker. Autumn is coming and although that means it's officially the end of summer, our mindset is a fresh new take on Autumn style. Layers, textures, thick jumpers, warm boots and the brand new Autumn/Winter '14 Collection from yours truly. We can't wait for you to get your hands on this seasons designs - think sophisticated winter nights and warm winter hikes. Detailed designs with function at it's core.

    FORMAL1.AW14

This season's look is based around home comforts, traditional British ideals and all the small details that make a big impact. A great way to make a big impact with an outfit, is to have a similar colour-way and a pop of colour. This season sees green as a staple colour you need in your wardrobe. In the absence of greenery throughout the end seasons, a perfect way to add colour and keep right on trend is to add dark, leafy greens to your outfit and then a complementary tone to finish the look with your footwear. We love the idea of a dark green coat overlaid on a dark grey tweed suit, finished with a crisp white oxford and a pop of colour on the feet, think tans brogues or boots.

A classic sports inspired shoe, perfect for casual weekends and everyday wear, the bouncy rubber sole puts comfort to the test and thick lace up design makes sure you stay secure. Best worn with jeans and a crew neck jumper or chinos and a chambray shirt for a cool casual look this autumn.

    MARAUDER SUEDE NAVY - PP04403

A personal favourite - Marauder the AW14 Base London chukka boot finished in a tough yet refined waxed suede upper, in a selection of autumnal tones: navy, black, tan and brown. A thick white rubber sole unit adds a pop of brightness and promotes a very casual look. An easy boot for weekend wear, best worn with jeans for a laid-back, contemporary look.

Formal Wear | Hyde Burnished Tan

    HYDE BURNISHED TAN - PW01241

A very classic look for this season, Hyde is great for all weather conditions and will keep you dry on wetter days with its enclosed six-hole lace up design. Burnished leather creates a vintage look and only adds to the charm, finished in tan or brown creating a rich tone to any outfit, perfect if you're looking to add some subtle colour. Classic is what we love and a brogue will always be a timeless piece, a shoe that you can rely on for any occasion. Thick formal rubber sole unit is made for everyday wear and will make sure your feet stay comfortable. Hyde is a formal shoe and looks great with a sharp suit, but can also be worn with jeans and a jumper for a more semi-formal style.

Formal Wear | Richmond Waxy Brown

    RICHMOND WAXY BROWN - PW03200

Richmond is our fashion formal boot, designed to be a key trending piece but with formality in mind. A boot that goes great with a suit and really creates a distinct and original look - boots aren't always worn with suits these days and it's a catch many guys are missing out on. Perfect for wet, wintery days to keep you feeling comfortable, warm and smart without losing that sophisticated edge. Long laces look great wrapped around the top of the boot for a statement look. Waxed leather uppers means you'll stay dry throughout the wet autumn days and a choice of brown or tan to blend or pop into an outfit. Your choice.

Stepping out the house in the morning is always a gamble, which makes putting together a look that's both stylish and functional sometimes a pretty hard task.

With a list of huge artists playing this weekend at Lovebox in Hackney's Victoria Park, the heatwave couldn't have come at a better time. This year has been slimmed down from three to just two days, but no costs have been spared with the amazing line-up, that makes sure Lovebox is still one of the highlights of London summer.

Who's playing? Headliners for the weekend are the British drum'n'bass duo Chase & Status, the charming M.I.A and the old school American classic, Nas. A massive mix of genres from remix boy wonder Cyril Hahn; to the infamous DJ EZ; to a more recent but impressive American hip hop artist, Joey Bada$$; to the chilled out sounds of Bonobo. Despite starting out as a predominantly dance festival, Lovebox has since expanded to include a wide variety of musical genres which makes this festival perfect for so many types of people, ages and interests. Check out the poster below for more info on who's playing.

Pulled pork burgers, mac n cheese, chicken quarters, innovative salads & much more... Check out the facebook for mouth-watering images, you'll want to try this. For Dessert? Crosstown Doughnuts has my vote.

SEA SALT CARAMEL & BANANA DOUGHNUT SEA SALT CARAMEL & BANANA DOUGHNUT. Serious.

Another reason why Lovebox has done so well for itself is it's constantly up to date, interesting and what people want. If you're not so good at keeping track of times, download the Lovebox App and it'll work out the time schedule for you. So you can go get pissed without worrying about reading through a timetable and you can set up your prefered schedule. The official page says it's "full of all the information you need to enjoy the festival, including set times, stage details, create your own schedule for the day so you can plan the fun, receive latest news and changes on the day, along with our social media updates from artists and Lovebox."
