Maggots Sir?... Yes Please!
It's the stuff horror movies are made of!
Now we've all been known to bring a back a little token from our summer holiday... a postcard, pictures, hand made carvings...and of course the odd live maggot?
After returning from a holiday in Belize Aaron Dallas got a shock nobody wants after he was told that the strange bleeding lumps that had appeared on his head after the trip, were not in fact gnat bites or shingles, but live maggots...yes maggots!!
On his return from Belize Aaron decided to seek medical advice for the, what were then small, bumps on his forehead. After being told it was probably shingles Aaron went home happy with his diagnoses until the bumps took on a life of their own and began moving around!
A doctor then discovered five bot fly larvae living in Aarons head...just by the top of his skull!! According to the doc, the larvae had most likely been placed in his head by a simple mosquito. They act as 'carriers' and transfer the eggs to a 'host' (or in this case Aaron!)
When asked about this gruesome case Aaron said:
"I'd put my hand back there and feel them moving. I thought it was blood coursing through my head. I could hear them. I actually thought I was going crazy,"
The critters have now been removed making Aaron maggot free. Somehow I don't think he'll be returning to Belize anytime soon, and to be perfectly honest...we don't blame him!!
